Tripeptide-1: Advanced Signaling for Skin Repair and Anti-Aging

Tripeptide-1 (Glycyl-Histidyl-Lysine) is a biomimetic matrikine signal peptide that functions as a potent cellular messenger in cosmetic science. It stimulates dermal fibroblasts to synthesize essential extracellular matrix (ECM) components, including collagen types I and III, elastin, fibronectin, and glycosaminoglycans. Positioned as a premium anti-aging and skin-repair active, Tripeptide-1 helps detoxify reactive carbonyl species (RCS) and counteract photo-aging, offering superior firming and structural matrix support.

Market context: Tripeptide-1 is a highly sought-after active in the cosmetic raw material market, recognized for its potent anti-aging and skin-repair properties. While some suppliers market Tripeptide-1 under proprietary trade names such as Kollaren™, Aldenine®, or Active Peptide GHK, Formulate Labs explicitly supplies the INCI Tripeptide-1 active only and does not sell or represent these specific supplier-branded SKUs.

Formulate Labs offers Tripeptide-1 in convenient suspension carriers, including Glycerin/Water and Sea Kelp Bioferment. For standard 1,000 ppm (0.1%) suspensions, typical use levels range from 1.0% to 10.0%, while 10,000 ppm (1%) lab concentrates are generally used at 0.1% to 1.0%, allowing for flexible and effective formulation.

We supply bare GHK as a finished aqueous suspension in two carriers — a 35% glycerin / water base for maximum formulation flexibility, or dosed directly into our single-origin Sea Kelp Bioferment — at 0.01% standard or our 10X lab concentrate at 0.1%.

Why formulators reach for it

Foundational GHK with validated dermal repair and hair-regeneration literature.

Tripeptide-1 Minimizes Visible Wrinkles
Supports the reduction of facial wrinkles, improving skin's elasticity and density by inhibiting the accumulation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).
Tripeptide-1 Boosts Collagen & Elastin
Acts as a cellular messenger to stimulate the synthesis of essential extracellular matrix components, including collagen and elastin, promoting skin firmness and structural integrity.
Tripeptide-1 Counteracts Photo-Aging
Helps to detoxify reactive carbonyl species (RCS) and mitigate the visible signs of photo-aging, contributing to a more resilient complexion.
Tripeptide-1 Supports Skin Remodeling
Upregulates extracellular matrix genes, resetting cellular pathways to stimulate advanced skin remodeling and accelerate tissue repair.

Formulate Labs supplies the INCI Tripeptide-1 active only and does not sell or represent supplier-branded trade-name SKUs such as GHK, Kollaren™, or Aldenine®.

Published research

Peer-reviewed literature for due diligence.

Tripeptide-1 (GHK) is a foundational signal peptide — isolated from human plasma in 1973 — that modulates ECM gene expression, tissue repair, and follicle biology; copper complexation to GHK-Cu is the most researched bioactive form for regeneration (Pickart et al., 2015). These are independent, third-party papers we link for formulators evaluating mechanism, tolerability, and published panel data. We did not conduct this research and do not guarantee replication in your finished formula.

Compliance & safety

The fine print, in plain English.

What it’s for
Cosmetic raw material for leave-on and rinse-off skincare where ECM redensifying, anti-aging, wound-recovery, or post-procedure repair positioning is intended (serums, creams, recovery gels after laser or microneedling). Also for leave-on hair-care where substantiated cosmetic density, shedding, or scalp-support claims are intended (scalp serums, follicle-positioned treatments — often as bare GHK, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, or co-use with Copper Tripeptide-1). Not a finished consumer product; not for ingestion, injection, or unsupervised topical use outside a formulated finished product.
Claims guidance
Cosmetic structure / function language only (e.g. supports a firmer-looking finish, supports the appearance of skin thickness, helps maintain the look of hair density). Avoid wound-healing and alopecia drug language (“treats wounds,” “cures alopecia,” “regrows hair” as drug claims). Do not imply injectable Botox-like paralysis. Downstream finished-product claims must be substantiated by the brand.
Storage
  • Store between 2-25 °C in original sealed container away from direct light.
  • Cold storage extends shelf life by ~50% relative to room temperature.
  • Once opened, use within the period stated on the COA.
Regulatory
  • INCI: Tripeptide-1 (per ICID and PCPC dictionary).
  • Not classified as hazardous based on currently available information per OSHA HazCom 2012 / GHS.
  • Compatible with FDA cosmetic regulations and EU 1223/2009 for the intended use.
  • SDS section 16 disclaimer applies; see the per-recipe SDS for the full classification.
Sensitivity
Tripeptide-1 is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic use at the rates above; the supplier’s HET-CAM and AMES studies on the peptide indicate non-irritating and non-mutagenic behavior at industry-standard concentrations. The peptide is light-sensitive: store and ship in opaque containers, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in finished formulations. Avoid prolonged contact with strong oxidisers, sulfuric or phosphoric acids, acetic anhydride, sustained heat at or above 40 °C after addition, high-shear processing once incorporated, and prolonged exposure to pH > 7.0 — any of these can hydrolyze the peptide and reduce in-formula activity. Patch-test finished formulations per standard cosmetic protocol.
