The peptide

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8: Soothing Hyper-Reactive Skin

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 is a neurocosmetic biomimetic lipopeptide engineered to mimic the natural anti-inflammatory neuropeptide α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It functions as a competitive antagonist at the Melanocortin-1 Receptor (MC1-R), effectively reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1, IL-8, and TNF-α, while also inhibiting Substance P-induced vasodilation and neurogenic edema. This makes Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 ideally suited for sensitive, hyper-reactive, and redness-prone skin, including formulations targeting rosacea, providing relief from chemical irritants, UV radiation, and mechanical stressors to restore epidermal sensitivity.

Market context: — Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 is a key active in the neurocosmetic peptide space, competing with trademarked offerings like Neutrazen™ from Lucas Meyer Cosmetics / Clariant, SpecPed® PT8P from Spec-Chem Industry, and Cosroma® PT-8 from COSROMA. While these products are marketed for their specific benefits in reducing neurogenic inflammation, redness, and sensitization, Formulate Labs supplies the pure INCI ingredient, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, and does not sell these trademarked SKUs.

Formulate Labs typically offers Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 as a 0.1% standard glycerin suspension, providing a convenient and stable format for formulators. This pre-dispersed solution ensures easy integration into cosmetic bases, optimizing the delivery of this sensitive-skin active into a wide range of formulations.

We supply it as a finished aqueous suspension in two carriers - a 35% glycerin / water base for maximum formulation flexibility, or dosed directly into our single-origin Sea Kelp Bioferment. Both ship at the NeurophrolineTM-equivalent reference of 0.03% or our 10X lab concentrate at 0.3%.

Published research

Peer-reviewed literature for due diligence.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 (Neurophroline) is discussed in neurocosmetic and sensitive-skin literature as a stress-response lipopeptide for calmer-looking, even-toned skin. These are independent, third-party papers we link for formulators evaluating mechanism, tolerability, and published panel data. We did not conduct this research and do not guarantee replication in your finished formula.

Formulation guide

Built for chemists who sweat the details.

Typical use rate
0.0005%–0.01% for pure peptide powder; typically 1.0%–5.0% for pre-dispersed peptide stock solutions.
Solubility
The hydrophobic palmitoyl chain limits direct aqueous solubility; requires pre-dispersion in glycols (e.g., butylene glycol) or mild organic solvents prior to aqueous dilution.
pH compatibility
Optimal stability is maintained in a neutral pH range of 5.0 to 7.5.
Add at
Add during the cool-down phase below 40°C (absolute limit 70°C).
Mixing
Requires pre-dispersion in glycols or mild organic solvents before aqueous dilution; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to prevent irreversible degradation and aggregation.
Avoid
Avoid unbuffered aqueous solutions and repeated freeze-thaw cycles. UV-sensitive, necessitating opaque or amber packaging.
Pairs well with
No specific pairing recommendations are provided in the available research report for Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8.
Self-preserving
Yes - 2% Linatural MBS-4. Boost preservation per your finished-formula needs

Documentation

SDS + TDS are issued per recipe (each base / preservative combination has its own regulatory paperwork). The links below swap when you change your selection above. COA is batch-specific and ships with the order.

Compliance & safety

The fine print, in plain English.

What it’s for
Cosmetic raw material - leave-on hair-care formulations (scalp serums, hair tonics, leave-on hair lotions, density-positioned conditioning treatments) at the use rates above; also acceptable in rinse-off cosmetic products and skincare formats where a peptide-based "supports the look of fuller hair" / scalp-comfort positioning is intended. Not a finished consumer product; not for ingestion, injection, or unsupervised topical use outside a formulated finished product.
Claims guidance
Cosmetic structure / function language only (e.g. supports a calmer-looking finish, supports a less reactive appearance). Avoid cortisol drug language (“blocks cortisol”, “treats stress”, “treats rosacea”). Do not make therapeutic claims. The peptide is studied in cosmetic in-vitro and panel work; downstream finished-product claims must be substantiated by the brand.
Storage
  • Store between 2-25 °C in original sealed container away from direct light.
  • Cold storage extends shelf life by ~50% relative to room temperature.
  • Once opened, use within the period stated on the COA.
Regulatory
  • INCI: Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 (per ICID and PCPC dictionary).
  • Not classified as hazardous based on currently available information per OSHA HazCom 2012 / GHS.
  • Compatible with FDA cosmetic regulations and EU 1223/2009 for the intended use.
  • SDS section 16 disclaimer applies; see the per-recipe SDS for the full classification.
Sensitivity
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic use at the rates above; the supplier’s HET-CAM and AMES studies on the peptide indicate non-irritating and non-mutagenic behavior at industry-standard concentrations. The peptide is light-sensitive: store and ship in opaque containers, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in finished formulations. Avoid prolonged contact with strong oxidisers, sulfuric or phosphoric acids, acetic anhydride, sustained heat above 45 °C, and prolonged exposure to pH > 7.0 - any of these can hydrolyze the peptide and reduce in-formula activity. Patch-test finished formulations per standard cosmetic protocol.
