The peptide

Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17: the lash- and brow-care pentapeptide

Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 is a myristoylated pentapeptide used in cosmetic lash-, brow-, and scalp-care serums. Published cosmetic studies evaluate keratin-supporting sequences in topical leave-on formats for the look of longer, fuller lashes and thicker-looking brows. Use cosmetic structure / function language only; do not make lash-growth drug claims.

Market context: this is the INCI peptide found in supplier-branded Xlash / SymPeptide Xlash (Lubrizol) actives. Formulate Labs supplies Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 in our own made-to-order suspensions. We do not sell, stock, or represent those trade names.

We supply it as a finished aqueous suspension at 0.1% standard (1X) or 1% lab concentrate (10X) in a 35% glycerin / water base or dosed into our single-origin Sea Kelp Bioferment.

Why formulators reach for it

A peptide with a long cosmetic-science track record.

Keratin-supporting lash and brow care
Cited in published cosmetic lash-serum studies evaluating keratin-supporting peptide sequences for the look of longer, fuller lashes and thicker-looking brows.
Myristoyl lipidation for topical leave-on use
The C14 myristoyl tail is the delivery handle used in leave-on lash, brow, and scalp serums. Best in cool-down, water-phase systems.
1X drop-in or 10X lab concentrate
0.1% industry-standard loading for typical 1%–10% use, or 1% lab concentrate when you want to meter a low dose into a finished formula.
Two carriers, made to order
Glycerin / water with a selectable preservative, or dosed into our pre-preserved Sea Kelp Bioferment. SDS + TDS per recipe.

Published research

Peer-reviewed literature for due diligence.

Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 is cited in published eyelash- and hair-care cosmetic studies evaluating keratin-supporting peptide sequences in topical serums. It is the INCI peptide found in supplier-branded Xlash / SymPeptide Xlash actives; we do not sell or represent those trade names. These are independent, third-party papers we link for formulators evaluating mechanism, tolerability, and published panel data. We did not conduct this research and do not guarantee replication in your finished formula.

Formulation guide

Built for chemists who sweat the details.

Typical use rate
1%–10% of the 0.1% (1X) suspension (industry recommended); 0.1%–1% of the 1% (10X) lab concentrate for the same in-formula peptide level of approximately 0.001% – 0.01%
Solubility
Water-soluble peptide, supplied already dissolved in a glycerin / water or Sea Kelp Bioferment aqueous carrier. Add to the water phase.
pH compatibility
Keep the finished formula in the acidic range (approximately 4.0–6.0). This suspension sits in the selected preservative window.
Add at
Cool-down, at or below 40 °C. Protect from direct light; the peptide is light-sensitive.
Mixing
Incorporate into the water phase with gentle mixing. High shear is not required.
Avoid
Strong oxidisers, sulfuric or phosphoric acids, acetic anhydride, sustained heat above 45 °C, prolonged pH above 7.0, and prolonged direct sunlight.
Pairs well with
Lash- and brow-serum vehicles, humectants, complementary cosmetic peptides, and Sea Kelp Bioferment when a marine carrier is desired.
Self-preserving
Yes - 2% Linatural MBS-4. Boost preservation per your finished-formula needs

Documentation

SDS + TDS are issued per recipe (each base / preservative combination has its own regulatory paperwork). The links below swap when you change your selection above. COA is batch-specific and ships with the order.

Compliance & safety

The fine print, in plain English.

What it’s for
Cosmetic raw material - leave-on hair-care formulations (scalp serums, hair tonics, leave-on hair lotions, density-positioned conditioning treatments) at the use rates above; also acceptable in rinse-off cosmetic products and skincare formats where a peptide-based "supports the look of fuller hair" / scalp-comfort positioning is intended. Not a finished consumer product; not for ingestion, injection, or unsupervised topical use outside a formulated finished product.
Claims guidance
Cosmetic structure / function language only (e.g. supports the appearance of fuller-looking lashes, supports thicker-looking brows, conditions lashes). Avoid lash-growth drug language (“grows lashes”, “lash growth treatment”, “Latisse alternative”). Do not make therapeutic claims. The peptide is studied in cosmetic in-vitro and panel work; downstream finished-product claims must be substantiated by the brand.
Storage
  • Store between 2-25 °C in original sealed container away from direct light.
  • Cold storage extends shelf life by ~50% relative to room temperature.
  • Once opened, use within the period stated on the COA.
Regulatory
  • INCI: Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 (per ICID and PCPC dictionary).
  • Not classified as hazardous based on currently available information per OSHA HazCom 2012 / GHS.
  • Compatible with FDA cosmetic regulations and EU 1223/2009 for the intended use.
  • SDS section 16 disclaimer applies; see the per-recipe SDS for the full classification.
Sensitivity
Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic use at the rates above; the supplier’s HET-CAM and AMES studies on the peptide indicate non-irritating and non-mutagenic behavior at industry-standard concentrations. The peptide is light-sensitive: store and ship in opaque containers, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in finished formulations. Avoid prolonged contact with strong oxidisers, sulfuric or phosphoric acids, acetic anhydride, sustained heat above 45 °C, and prolonged exposure to pH > 7.0 - any of these can hydrolyze the peptide and reduce in-formula activity. Patch-test finished formulations per standard cosmetic protocol.
