The peptide

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40: Calming Reactive Skin and Reducing Redness

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 (Ac-Ala-Thr-Asn-Thr) is a biomimetic soothing peptide engineered to suppress the inflammatory cascade triggered by the antimicrobial peptide LL-37. In rosacea-prone, sensitive, and UV-damaged skin, LL-37 is abnormally overexpressed, driving the release of pro-inflammatory interleukins IL-6 and IL-8. By inhibiting these specific mediators, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 normalizes the neurovascular response, reduces visible vasodilation (telangiectasia), and mitigates post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Furthermore, by limiting this excessive immune response, it prevents the activation of collagen-degrading matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), preserving skin elasticity. It is optimally positioned for reactive skin, rosacea-care, and post-procedure recovery formulations.

Market context: — Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 is prominently marketed under the trade name Telangyn™ by Lipotec/Lubrizol, specifically positioned for facial erythema, rosacea relief, and photoprotective soothing. It is frequently benchmarked against other premium barrier-repair peptides, such as Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 (Neutrazen™) and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, for sensitive skin and anti-inflammatory applications. Please note that Formulate Labs supplies the unbranded INCI ingredient (Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40) only and does not sell trademarked supplier SKUs.

Formulate Labs offers Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 in a stable, easily incorporated 0.1% standard glycerin suspension. This ready-to-use format simplifies formulation development, allowing formulators to seamlessly integrate this potent active into diverse cosmetic bases. Our commitment to high purity ensures consistent performance and efficacy for your advanced skincare solutions.

We supply it as a finished aqueous suspension in two carriers - a 35% glycerin / water base for maximum formulation flexibility, or dosed directly into our single-origin Sea Kelp Bioferment. Both ship at the TelesomylTM-equivalent reference of 0.03% or our 10X lab concentrate at 0.3%.

Compliance & safety

The fine print, in plain English.

What it’s for
Cosmetic raw material - leave-on hair-care formulations (scalp serums, hair tonics, leave-on hair lotions, density-positioned conditioning treatments) at the use rates above; also acceptable in rinse-off cosmetic products and skincare formats where a peptide-based "supports the look of fuller hair" / scalp-comfort positioning is intended. Not a finished consumer product; not for ingestion, injection, or unsupervised topical use outside a formulated finished product.
Claims guidance
Cosmetic structure / function language only (e.g. supports a smoother-looking finish, supports a rested appearance). Avoid telomere drug language (“extends telomeres”, “reverses cellular aging”, “anti-aging gene therapy”). Do not make therapeutic claims. The peptide is studied in cosmetic in-vitro and panel work; downstream finished-product claims must be substantiated by the brand.
Storage
  • Store between 2-25 °C in original sealed container away from direct light.
  • Cold storage extends shelf life by ~50% relative to room temperature.
  • Once opened, use within the period stated on the COA.
Regulatory
  • INCI: Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 (per ICID and PCPC dictionary).
  • Not classified as hazardous based on currently available information per OSHA HazCom 2012 / GHS.
  • Compatible with FDA cosmetic regulations and EU 1223/2009 for the intended use.
  • SDS section 16 disclaimer applies; see the per-recipe SDS for the full classification.
Sensitivity
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic use at the rates above; the supplier’s HET-CAM and AMES studies on the peptide indicate non-irritating and non-mutagenic behavior at industry-standard concentrations. The peptide is light-sensitive: store and ship in opaque containers, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in finished formulations. Avoid prolonged contact with strong oxidisers, sulfuric or phosphoric acids, acetic anhydride, sustained heat above 45 °C, and prolonged exposure to pH > 7.0 - any of these can hydrolyze the peptide and reduce in-formula activity. Patch-test finished formulations per standard cosmetic protocol.
