The peptide

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: The Premier Topical Alternative to Attenuate Expression Lines

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic biomimetic peptide patterned after the N-terminal end of the SNAP-25 protein. It competitively disrupts the assembly of the SNARE complex, thereby inhibiting the localized release of acetylcholine. This targeted neuromodulation safely attenuates superficial facial muscle contractions, gradually softening dynamic expression lines while preventing new wrinkle formation. Within cosmetic science, this peptide is strictly positioned as the premier, non-invasive topical alternative to injectable botulinum neurotoxins.

Market context: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is universally marketed as the original, non-toxic, and non-invasive topical alternative to clinical injectables, often earning the moniker “Botox in a Bottle.” Competitors frequently emphasize rapid efficacy, with claims highlighting 17–27% reductions in expression line depth within 15–30 days. This active is also commonly synergistically stacked within multi-peptide systems or alongside hydrating bioferments to maximize both immediate epidermal plumping and long-term neuromuscular modulation. Formulate Labs supplies the INCI Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 only; we do not supply supplier-branded SKUs such as Argireline.

Formulate Labs offers Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 as a highly stable, completely water-soluble active, compatible with various aqueous carriers including Glycerin/Water and Sea Kelp Bioferment, which further aids delivery and mitigates trans-epidermal water loss. Our standard 0.1% glycerin suspension ensures easy integration into your formulations, with typical use rates ranging from 2–10% for 0.05% solutions, and 1–5% for 1% lab concentrates, scaling up to 10% for targeted expression-line boosters.

We supply it as a finished aqueous suspension in two carriers - a 35% glycerin / water base for maximum formulation flexibility, or dosed directly into our single-origin Sea Kelp Bioferment for formulators who want to ship a pre-built hydrating active in one drop. Both ship at supplier-reference 0.05% or our 10X lab concentrate at 0.5%.

Compliance & safety

The fine print, in plain English.

What it’s for
Cosmetic raw material - leave-on skincare formulations (eye creams, expression-line serums, anti-aging moisturizers) at the use rates above; also acceptable in rinse-off cosmetic products. Not a finished consumer product; not for ingestion, injection, or unsupervised topical use outside a formulated finished product.
Claims guidance
Cosmetic structure / function language only (e.g. softens the look of expression lines, supports a smoother appearance, supports a relaxed-looking finish). Avoid neuromodulator / neurotoxin language ("Botox alternative", "paralyzes muscles", "blocks nerve signals", "treats wrinkles") - these are drug claims and are forbidden on cosmetic products in every market we ship into. Do not make therapeutic claims (treating, curing, healing). The peptide is studied in cosmetic in-vitro and panel work; downstream finished-product claims must be substantiated by the brand.
Storage
  • Store between 2-25 °C in original sealed container away from direct light.
  • Cold storage extends shelf life by ~50% relative to room temperature.
  • Once opened, use within the period stated on the COA.
Regulatory
  • INCI: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (per ICID and PCPC dictionary).
  • Not classified as hazardous based on currently available information per OSHA HazCom 2012 / GHS.
  • Compatible with FDA cosmetic regulations and EU 1223/2009 for the intended use.
  • SDS section 16 disclaimer applies; see the per-recipe SDS for the full classification.
Sensitivity
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is generally well-tolerated in cosmetic use at the rates above; the supplier’s HET-CAM and AMES studies on the peptide indicate non-irritating and non-mutagenic behavior at industry-standard concentrations. Avoid prolonged contact with strong oxidisers, sustained heat above 45 °C, prolonged exposure to pH > 7.5, and high concentrations of divalent metal salts in the same phase - these can hydrolyze the peptide and reduce in-formula activity. Patch-test finished formulations per standard cosmetic protocol.
