About the Role
As Product Manager (AI & Automation Systems), you'll define and drive the roadmap for the intelligence layer of our Gen 3 manufacturing platform. You will own the product strategy behind closed-loop optimization, reinforcement learning systems, formulation intelligence, and process automation.
This role sits at the intersection of AI, robotics, and real-world manufacturing. You won't be training models yourself - but you will define what problems we solve with AI, how success is measured, and how intelligence integrates into physical production systems.
You will work closely with AI/ML engineers, controls engineers, software teams, and leadership to turn vision into shipped, measurable systems. This is a high-agency role for someone who thrives in ambiguity and wants to shape the future of adaptive manufacturing.
This is a full-time role based in California, with in-person collaboration expected in our Mountain View office (generally four days per week onsite).
What You'll Do
- Define the product roadmap for AI-driven process optimization and automation systems.
- Translate high-level company vision into clear product requirements and measurable objectives.
- Work with ML engineers to scope reinforcement learning, optimization, and predictive modeling initiatives.
- Define success metrics for process performance, yield improvement, and system learning loops.
- Partner with controls and embedded teams to ensure AI systems integrate cleanly into physical hardware.
- Prioritize features and experiments based on impact, feasibility, and learning velocity.
- Design feedback mechanisms that convert production data into product improvements.
- Collaborate with Customer Success and Sales to understand market needs and translate them into roadmap priorities.
- Communicate progress and tradeoffs clearly across engineering and leadership teams.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of product management experience in technical or platform environments.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, optimization systems, or automation technologies.
- Comfortable working with engineers across ML, controls, and software domains.
- Ability to define metrics and evaluate experimental outcomes rigorously.
- Strong systems thinking - you understand how software intelligence interacts with hardware constraints.
- High agency and comfort making decisions with incomplete information.
- Excellent communication skills - you can translate complex technical concepts into clear priorities.
- Actively leverages modern AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, and product iteration.
- Nice-to-haves: manufacturing systems, industrial automation, reinforcement learning exposure, technical degree.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation with equity.
- Ownership over the intelligence roadmap of a next-generation manufacturing platform.
- Opportunity to define how AI integrates into real-world physical systems.
- High-autonomy environment with direct impact on company direction.
- A fast-moving, builder-oriented team focused on ambitious execution.
